About Wild Oak Acres
Breeding with Purpose
Wild Oak Acres is a small Silkie-focused farm built around intentional breeding, careful selection, and long-term stewardship of the breed. We prioritize structure, type, health, temperament, and natural hardiness in every pairing, with the goal of preserving and thoughtfully improving Silkies over time.
Our foundation flock was selectively curated from trusted lines, and we are deliberate in choosing which birds are bred. Not every bird should be bred, and we believe thoughtful selection is essential to maintaining healthy, well-structured Silkies for future generations.
We believe meaningful breeding is a long-term process, where progress happens over generations, not seasons.
Preservation, With Room for Creativity
While our primary focus is strengthening the Silkie breed and honoring established standards, we also explore special project colors and patterns beyond the traditional palette. These projects are approached with the same care and responsibility as our standard lines, balancing creativity with respect for the breed’s defining traits.
Thoughtful Availability
We hatch and raise Silkies year-round as part of our ongoing breeding program. However, we only offer eggs, chicks, and select birds when our flock naturally produces more than our program requires.
Availability is therefore seasonal and limited, with the greatest number of offerings typically appearing during peak laying periods. Rather than operating like a hatchery, we release surplus eggs and chicks in small, carefully managed batches that reflect real production and responsible breeding practices.
For Backyard Keepers and New Enthusiasts
Silkies are beloved for their gentle personalities, distinctive beauty, and adaptability. They make exceptional pets, calm family-friendly flock members, and a charming addition to backyard and homestead flocks.
Whether you’re new to chickens or thoughtfully expanding your flock, our goal is to make high-quality Silkies accessible without compromising the wellbeing of our birds or the integrity of the breed.
